Diepsloot, Wednesday 16 July 2015- Tourvest a tourism company in South Africa partnering with Africa Tikkun to better the living conditions of those in need through their corporate social responsibility. According to the company spokesperson Judi nwokedi, ” their programme for 2015 Mandela day gave 150 of its staff members day off to participate in employee volunteerism program in Diepsloot”. The event took place yesterday at Africa Tikkun. Tourvest volunteering staff members renovated the library by repainting it, working in the garden and building of 10 dwellings for Diepsloot residents in different extensions.The residents living in worst conditions where identified through Africa Tikkun programmes and social workers.
Africa Tikkun programs include a day care that accommodates 250 children, some of them coming from low income families who depend on children grant and are unable to pay for the children school fees. Africa Tikkun pay for their school fees and also transport them to their homes through Africa Tikkun transport at no cost.a library that accommodates 150 students from grade 1 to post metric to do their homework after school and also to study. children from all schools in Diepsloot are welcome to fill application forms and register to be part of the program.the grade 12 learners have lessons from 4 pm till 6 pm everyday, they are also given an opportunity to camp at Africa Tikkun when they are writing their final exams until they are done. The vegetables in Africa Tikkun garden are used in their kitchen to cook for the learners , each day they receive a meal and a fruit after school. Noluthando Moyana, a social worker based in Africa Tikkun said, The families that received 10 dwellings where identified through those programs.Applications to enroll children at Africa Tikkun in Diepsloot are open every beginning of the year.
