Diepsloot, 20 July 2015- with the rise of crime due to substance abuse in Diepsloot, Kemoja program was launched in Diepsloot. kemoja is a non profit organisation, Preventing Substance abuse in different communities. In Diepsloot Kemoja is Partnering with SANCA under Gauteng social development and also sponsored by African Youth development Programme. The aim of the programme is to motivate young people more especially learners to set their personal goals and to build their personal shied and also assist them with after care.”Most young people end up smoking drugs and consuming alcohol due to frastrations in life”, said Phumlani Mhlongo ( Kemoja Facilitator in Diepsloot). The programme also encourage them to value the importance of education. kemoja works with schools, churches, Ngo’s and selected malls. In Diepsloot they are currently working with all schools, love life, Shumba Shaba, Africa Tikkun and National youth projects.
In schools Kemoja use life skills periods to motivate learners. Through this programme learners who have problems are identified and referred to SANCA for counselling
