On Sunday afternoon, 25 October 2020, Diepsloot police have arrested a 40-year-old male suspect for murder, attempted murder and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH); he is alleged to have committed on 18 October 2020, in extension 1.
It is alleged that on Sunday morning, 18 October 2020 at about 03:00am, the deceased – a 33-year-old male was asleep at his friend’s place in extension 1 when a group of about fifteen (15) men forced opened the door demanding to see the deceased.
The fifteen suspects, including the tavern owner, allegedly pulled the deceased and his friend outside and started to assault them with fists and unknown objects. The deceased’s friend was allegedly stabbed multiple times with a knife and was rushed to hospital for medical treatment.
When the police arrived at the scene of crime, they found the victim lying in a pool of blood. Emergency personnel declared the victim dead on the scene.
Motive for the killing is unknown at this stage. More arrests are eminent. The suspect appeared in the Randburg magistrates this morning and will reappear in the same court on 3 November 2020.
